Dogs Deserve Better
Sponsor US for Your Holiday Gifts!

Do you want your holiday gift giving to be about something more important this year? Sponsor a formerly Chained Dog or Penned Dog, and we will send you or your loved one a personalized gift letter with a picture of your sponsored foster dog and his/her story.

Last Year's Holiday Dogs

• See last year's fosters with their gifts, so touching!

Give a formerly chained or penned foster dog a taste of first-ever Holiday Cheer! As one of Dogs Deserve Better's most beloved campaigns, the annual Sponsor a Fostered Dog program has reached out and touched many a Holiday heart and home.

Just choose one of our special boys or girls and with your donation or gift box sent directly to them, you can ensure that one life is now not only safe from harm, but happy, beloved, and spoiled (as they deserve to be!). Our goal this year is to provide each dog in our program with a $75 gift card, in addition to any extra support needed and your packages. Your sponsor gift may also provide food, housing and veterinary care for Dogs Deserve Better foster dogs throughout the U.S. in the upcoming year, and help teach others about the plight of the chained dogs who are left to languish in the back yard.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE:**If your gift donation is meant for someone other than you, please provide the information (name and address of recipient and name and address of sender) by clicking on "Gift Name and Address of Receiver". We will then mail out a special gift letter to the address you provide featuring your chosen sponsored dog. If you'd like to mail packages directly to foster parents of a certain dog, please contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the foster parent's address. Also, many of you worry that one dog will be left out...not to fear, our dogs share with each other! If mailing packages, you may want to check with Kristi first to make sure your dog isn't receiving more packages than others, so that all dogs receive packages in the mail.**

• Plus, any sponsor donations over $25 will get a FREE 2010 Dogs Deserve Better Calendar. These calendars are being VERY well-received, make a great addition to your home or office. (an $11.00 value)

"I just wanted to thank you for the Foster Holiday program.  My foster dog that was selected, "Desi" has had a ball opening and playing with her new toys, and sleeping on her wonderful new bed. Foster homes do so much for our dogs, that it's so nice that they can have some things for our dogs that they don't have to supply. I love this program. It's just a "happy time".  Thank you for creating it!! Best to you!"

Banshee, PA

Banshee Banshee, who is a boy, is a purebred Black Labrador Retriever, if those sorts of things mean anything to you. He spent the first six years of his life on a chain, but his caretaker wanted a better life for him, and felt he was too much for them to handle, so they released him to us at rescue.

He is housetrained, and is a VERY smart dog! He's the Star of Tamira Thayne's book Scream Like Banshee! He absolutely LOVES balls, and to play fetch, although he's still working on giving the ball back to you. He also LOVES to swim! Taking him to the creek and watching him swim and fetch ball after ball out of the water is a true joy to behold. He's all lab, for sure. He'll do most anything for a treat.

He needs flea meds, INDESTRUCTIBLE balls, a new leash and collar, and a new bed.

To adopt or foster Banshee, e-mail adopt@dogsdeservebetter.org.  To mail a care package, mail to: P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684

If you'd like to sponsor via regular USPS mail, you may print out this form in .pdf format, and send to P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684. Or, call 1.877.636.1408 to sponsor via credit card or debit card over the phone

Daisy, PA

DaisyThis is Daisy Mae, she is paralyzed due to a back injury and drags herself around. Because of that, she was just left in a crate to rot before we rescued her. Daisy needs a wheelchair, and will also need to get spayed. Once she is rehabilitated she will be looking forward to a forever home that is qualified to meet her needs. She is a good little girl who likes to play with toys and really enjoys her treats. She loves snuggling and she is progressing everyday. She also enjoys being outdoors with the other dogs. Daisy will need some extra small sweaters for playing outdoors this winter and a collar with a bell so the blind dog does not step on her. Update: Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we did purchase one chair for her, but it didn't work well, so sent it back and last we heard another is currently on order. Please consider sponsoring some of our other dogs, some of which are still waiting for sponsors...but don't worry, they all share!

To adopt or foster Daisy, e-mail loddx@comcast.net.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

Murray, VA

MurrayMurray was rescued from a chain in a heavily chained-dog area of Pennsylvania, and is now being fostered in Virginia. He almost didn't make it out, at the last minute his owners decided not to give him up, but luckily for him they quickly changed their minds again. He's a great little guy, who is looking for his forever home, and would like a new bed, some flea meds, some toys and treats for Christmas this year.

To adopt Murray, e-mail dsy327@yahoo.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

Ben, IN

BENBen lived on a chain in a dirt/mud hole without a clue what it was like to have a human show him love, respect and warmth.

Luckily he was rescued from his chain this past summer and now lives the luxurious indoor life with his foster family. Ben will be spending this holiday season inside apart of a family for the very first time.

He doesn't want for much this holiday, but he does have a deep love of squeaky toys, chew toys, and any kind of treat he can get his paws on!

Buddy, GA

Buddy Buddy, formerly known as Butters lived his whole life chained in the backyard, watching his large family through the windows. On Christmas day 2008, he escaped the chain. In all the excitement he ended up at the pound; his family didn’t want to deal with him any more. Merry Christmas Buddy.

This will be his first Christmas since his last escape, his first Christmas inside a home. Maybe it will be in his new forever home! If not, it will be in our home, where he’ll be safe until he gets a family all his own.

To adopt or foster Buddy, e-mail pam.cheatham@turner.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

If you'd like to sponsor via regular USPS mail, you may print out this form in .pdf format, and send to P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684. Or, call 1.877.636.1408 to sponsor via credit card or debit card over the phone

Delilah, PA

Delilah Delilah is a nearly-blind dog who looks like her eyes work just fine...but they don't. She can see shadows and possibly a little more, though, because she can run in the woods, play, not run into furniture, etc.

She's a very, very pretty girl, with shiny fur and glistening eyes. She is looking for her REAL forever home, where she will be cherished, loved, taking for walks, etc. She is great with other dogs, but not awesome with cats. She can live with them, but she bugs them, so as long as your cat can stand his/her ground, it will be ok.

Delilah would like some flea meds, toys, treats, and a new dog bed for Christmas.

Don't miss out on a great addition to your home and family! To adopt her, fill out the form at http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/adopt.html.

To adopt or foster Delilah, e-mail adopt@dogsdeservebetter.org.  To mail a care package, mail to: P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684

Haley, NB

Haley Haley was taken from a home in Wymore, Nebraska after she was discovered by the police chief.

Haley is a three year old hound/irish setter mix. She is just a medium size dog. She weighed in at 21.4 lbs. when she arrived at Dogs Deserve Better in Nebraska. She should weigh around 50 lbs.

Haley will be up for adoption as soon as her heart worm treatment is completed.

For Christmas, Haley has asked Santa for a new comfie bed to lay her bony body on, some treats, and toys. Maybe a pretty girlish sweater would be nice too to help keep her warm (size lg).

To adopt or foster Haley, e-mail dogsdeservebetterne@hotmail.com.

Hannah, NY

Hannah Hannah is approximately two years old, but has lived quite the life until now!

She and her brother were adopted by a family as puppies, but apparently this family didn't realize how tough two puppies would be, so the pups spent the majority of their first six months in a crate, and were never trained or socialized.

Also during this time, Hannah experienced an injury to her hip, and because medical care was never sought, as Hannah grew, her hip socket became too small for the femoral ball, and once Hannah finally received the vet care she so desperately needed, it was too late to put her hip back to normal.

The woman donated the money to pay for Hannah's hip surgery, and she and her brother went to live with a family in upstate New York.

Because of Hannah's hip surgery, one of her legs are slightly shorter than the other, but that doesn't slow her down one bit. Hannah will thrive in a loving home who understands her slight limitations, and she will have years and years of love to give in return.

To adopt or foster Hannah, e-mail ddb_in_oswego@yahoo.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

Jack, NY

Jack Jack is a big, fluffy chow mix who is 71/2 years young! His foster mom thinks he looks more like a bear than a dog!

Jack has had quite the life so far. He lived his entire life chained up until now outside in a life of solitary confinement. His shelter was a truck cap and his water bowl was a plastic barrel cut in half. Despite the lack of attention and sad life he led, Jack remains a sweet, loving, forgiving guy.

Jack's Wish List: A new bed, chewies, treats, toys, brushes for his thick thick hair, and a new family! To adopt or foster Jack, e-mail ddb_in_oswego@yahoo.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

She loves to play in the pool, walk in the park with her foster mom and play with her squeeky toys. She loves squeeky toys!

Meg loves her treats and perfers soft chewy treats, but also will spend time with a kong filled with peanut butter!

Molly, KY

MollyThis is a picture off Molly, formerly known as Sweetie. She came to us from Tennessee, where she was chained for 6 years.

After being boarded for 2 months, a wonderful foster Mom who prefers smaller dogs stepped up to foster Molly. Molly has been with her almost 2 weeks, and she is doing well.

Molly loves any toys and treats, but tends to tear up the stuffed animal toys rather quickly. Everything is new to her about living inside and not being on a chain, so she would appreciate anything. Molly is some sort of Poodle/terrier mix and has a lot of energy and loves to play.

To adopt or foster Molly, e-mail tammikinrup@yahoo.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

Mr. Pickles, CA

Mr. Pickles Mr Pickles is a chi-winne, 1.5 years old, and previously backyard abused little guy. I have been fostering him since June'ish.
He is a great little shy guy and very timid, but has made best friends with my lab/pit (and she is crazy). I will be so sad to see him leave, but I know a very loving forever home is in his near future! Hope that's what you needed.

Any gift would be absolutely amazing! Mr. Pickles will always hold a very special place in my heart!

To adopt or foster Mr. Pickles, e-mail unchainsocal@yahoo.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

Patchie, MO

Patchie Patchie is a 10 year old Border Collie, chained his entire life because the owner said "he's an outside dog".

His teeth are worn from chewing the rocks that he lived on because of his boredom. His neck is very sensitive from the contant jerking when he would run to the end of his chain and get snapped back when he tried to greet people. His collar had to be cut off because it was too tight.

Patchie was very timid at first, but is now a happy, happy boy, very well behaved and is simply a love bug. He loves to carry his squeeky toys in his mouth, and has become quite the the treat hound. He enjoys soft chews because of some issues with his teeth. His entire story is one of the 90 dogs in 90 days stories.

To adopt or foster Patchie, e-mail Powerofthepaw@yahoo.com.

JJ, Illinois

JJJJ was one of four chained puppies rescued in Illinois. The puppies had been abused and all but JJ came out of their shells after rescuing and fostering. JJ has adapted well to her foster family, but is terrified of other people. In her foster home, she is the lively one, always grabbing up toys to take outside to play with the other dogs. She likes to play fetch with soft toys and hide chew bones in the yard. JJ is asking Santa for stuffed toys, chew bones and treats.

To adopt or foster JJ, e-mail the_ashby_family@yahoo.com.

Petey, NM

PeteyDear Santa, My name is Petey.

This Christmas, I would really love to be adopted into a forever family who will never leave me or mistreat me.

For my Christmas wish list, I would like my own dog crate, durable dog toys, dog treats, and a gift certificate to PetSmart.

My biggest wish on my list is that I would like a family, no matter where they live. I would like a family with older children who can play with me. I also like sleeping in the bed, playing fetch, and going for walks. I get along best with large female dogs. Really, I would love anything except cats.

To adopt or foster Petey, e-mail ddbnewmexico@yahoo.com.

Tyson, KY

TysonThis is Tyson, since rescued off the chain and living in foster care with one of the women who rescued him from a co-worker.

He is my first heartworm positive dog, and at 10 years old, is one happy, grateful dog. He is now house and crate trained, and would love a big, soft bed, and any toys or treats a big boy could play with.

Tyson is a real sweetie and has been treated for his heartworms so now only good times lie ahead for Tyson.

To adopt or foster Tyson, e-mail tammikinrup@yahoo.com.

Vivian, PA

Vivian Vivian was seized as a cruelty case in Pennsylvania, and is just now well enough to be spayed. She has SIBO, we believe, which is better than EPI, which is what we thought she had. She has trouble gaining weight, but is just starting to put weight on. She is currently not up for adoption until her health improves, but she would love some healthy, grain free dog treats, some pull and rope toys, and a new dog bed, as well as money for her vet care.

Weston, PA

Weston Weston is a very young, probably 8 month old, Fox Terrier mix. A smooth coated fox terrier. He looks fairly purebred, except he's larger than they normally are.

Weston loves to play, and just loves kids. He's great with other dogs, and even though he's a bit too curious about the cats, he's getting better and better with them.

He's a simply gorgeous dog, beautifully proportioned, who weaves his way into your heart quickly. He looks up at you with his puppy brown eyes, scrunches his ears up and wrinkles his forehead, and all your worries are forgotten.

Weston would like a new WASHABLE dog bed, flea meds, squeaky toys, and treats.

To adopt or foster Weston, e-mail adopt@dogsdeservebetter.org.  To mail a care package, mail to: P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684

Woody, KY

WoodyHere is Woody, a very sweet Chuhuahua who was put in a cage by his former family when their second child was born.

He is 8 years old, and surrendered to DDB. He is in a loving foster home with a family who adopted Zoey from DDB earlier this year.

Woody loves the tiny greenie bones and loves to snuggle in a warm blanket as well as chase small tennis balls.

To adopt or foster Woody, e-mail tammikinrup@yahoo.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

Esme, Capone, Gabe, Emma, and Addy, VA

Puppies

OH NO...we puppies got evicted. Mom was a backyard dog. When the caregivers got evicted from their house, they abandoned us. Please help!

We are fun-loving babies who think that humans are just the best thing ever. We are super affectionate and just light up whenever someone comes in the room.

Our foster mommy says that we are very bright and real people pleasers.

Our holiday wish is to be spayed and neutered. We don’t want to have to be mommies and daddies at 8 months old like our mommy did. We would also love some fuzzy toys to play with. And most of all we would love a forever home. We will be your 'best friend forever' and love you unconditionally!

To adopt or foster the puppies, e-mail nochaineddogs@gmail.com.

Sassy, NY

SassySassy, formerly Sexy, is a 5-7 year old purebred Miniature Pinscher. Until recently, she had spent the last 3 years in a tiny cage in a basement. The basement floods all the time, thus it is a very cold, damp, dark, miserable place to live.

"Sassy" is a snuggler and loves to get under the blankets. She also likes to wear sweaters and coats as she is very thin and does not have thick coat of her own, nothing fancy, as long as she is warm! She loves to chew on toys (and toys only, thank goodness!) and never turns down a treat.

Thank you for considering "Sassy," she has a wonderful personality and truly is an unique dog.

To adopt or foster Sassy, e-mail helpthehelpless7@hotmail.com.

Coco, MO

CocoCoco is 10 years old and he was chained since he was a pup. He must have had little interaction as he did not even know his name when I rescued him.

He had no vet care during his lifetime, and his toenails were so long he had trouble walking. He is now fully vetted, and loves his freedom.

Other than a forever home, I think Coco would like a nice comfy bed for his old bones to lay on at night. He is a vigorous chewer on toys and bones, so a new chew toy would be nice.

To adopt or foster Coco, e-mail dogwalker@arffmo.com.

Diamond, MO

DiamondDiamond is 10 years old and was on the chain for 8 years.

She is well behaved and loves to eat (she weighs 92 pounds and has lost 4 since she came to live with me, I think since she goes on walks now.) Diamond would like chew toys, and she needs heavy duty ones for big dogs like Kongs, as anything else is demolished quickly!

To adopt or foster Diamond, e-mail dogwalker@arffmo.com.

Beau, OR

BeauBeau is still looking for his forever home. Except for a couple of months, Beau lived his life at the end of a chain. Lucky for him, his owner did the right thing and surrendered him to Dogs Deserve Better.

Beau is still a little cautious around new people but has come a long way. He is a very sensitive dog and has a very sweet and comical personality.

A home without cats would be best, as he has a high prey drive. He is neutered and UTD on shots. We are looking for someone who has Pit Bull experience or has researched the breed. The adoption for Beau is restricted to Oregon. If you have any questions about this very special rescue or would like to meet Beau, please email Ruth at rjainor@msn.com or call 503-881-6055.

Probably what Beau needs the most are challenging, tough chew toys. To adopt Beau, e-mail rjainor@msn.com.

Annie, OH

AnnieFirst is Annie, she is the daughter of Fiona (see below).  Annie looks just like her mom.

Annie is 4.5 months old, and is a lab/shepherd mix of something else?

Annie is a friend to everyone she meets, a bit shy at first but very smart. She loves to cuddle.

She would like SantaPaws to bring her a new dog bed, lots of toys, a new retractable leash.

To adopt Annie, e-mail dogsdeservebetter_ohio@yahoo.com.

Fiona, OH

FionaFiona is approx. 3 years old, she is HW postitive and will begining treatment in December

She is a sweet lady and her tail wags so fast sometimes we think it will fall off. The more weight she gains, the more angelic she looks.

She weighed just 29 pounds when we met her, and she is close to 47 now. She has a few more pounds to gain..

Fiona spent her first few years of life as a chained lonely dog who didn't even get enough to eat.

She hopes Santa Paws will bring her a new dog bed, lots of treats and a new collar and leash.

GunnerGunner is a wire hair terrier /border collie mix,  approx. 7 months old. He was chained outside because the landlord didn't want him inside.

Midnight, GA

MidnightMidnight loves to catch and chase tennis balls (yes, they do fit into her small mouth). She also loves plush toys. This will be Midnight’s first Christmas and thankfully, she won’t be watching from outside on a chain. Even better would be to have her in her forever home. That’s her biggest Christmas wish. But she does love toys, anything she can carry, toss, catch, sleep on, bury, chew or eat.

Midnight is smart as a Border Collie and is learning commands. She’s agile, too, standing on her back legs and turning in circles. She likes to fly over the ground when chasing the ball. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Super Midnight!!!

To adopt or foster Midnight, e-mail pam.cheatham@turner.com.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.

Lacey, IN

LaceyLacey was rescued from this horrible backyard last November. She was starving and full of worms but she was so sweet.

I had her completely vetted and spayed and ready for her new life.

Lacey was adopted and returned due to allergies and is now back in a foster home.

Her wish list is:

1) A new large crate with a crate pad
2) New squeaky toys
3) New treats and cheweys
4) A family that will love her for the love bug that she is!

To adopt or foster Lacey, e-mail ddbrepcoord@dogsdeservebetter.org.  To mail a care package, contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the physical address.
