Chain Off was a wonderful experience
for me for many reasons. The idea that anyone could ever own
a dog and not have it inside as part of the family amazes me.
My dogs, all 5 of them, are my children and nothing makes me
happier than waking up to puppy kisses or coming home at
the end of a long day to those wagging tails! Chain Off was a
fantastic day because it proved to me that there are hundreds
of devoted dog lovers out there who support bringing dogs into
the home and family. If we can all join forces and educate people
on the dangers of chaining dogs maybe we can change people's
attitudes and those age old beliefs that dogs belong outside.
Being
chained up was hot and uncomfortable and boy were my back and
legs sore by the end of it all, and that was only 8 hours! Imagine
how miserable and uncomfortable the dogs who spend year after
year after year must feel! Several times I tried to get up and
move and came to the end of my 8 foot chain and had to reevaluate
where I wanted to go since I had so little moving room.
We had
hundreds of people stop in for our event and we were able to
raise almost $4200.00 for Dogs Deserve Better thanks to the generosity
of many people.—Laurie Yost

What did chain off mean to me?
To me chain off was happy and
yet sad. It was wonderful to raise money and to be part of such
a wonderful event.
It is sad to know people put their dogs outside with no humane
tough or love. Most of the time barely enough food or water
to live and it makes me wonder why did they even dog? To
make them, look cool? Nothing makes you look cooler then
a happy dog.
People asked me why are you
doing this, wasting a whole day. It
certainty was not a waste of time to me or any of the chain off
participates. But if one day of my life helped just one
dog, it was well worth it. I always say my dogs are my
children only with fur.
Two of the children I saved where
from an abusive home. They were outside 24 / 7 and the
owner said they loved being outside. After years of being
outside and me sneaking up to feed them and love them he gave
them to me. (he
got sick of me)
Once I got them they loved inside
and they loved being hugged, kissed and feed on a daily basis. I
am sad to say both my Jake and Jr. have passed about but in my
heart they will always be my little angels.
When some says "my
dogs like it outside all year round" In
other words I am to heartless to care.
My Chain off was in memory of Jake and Jr.
