Chained in Lexington, Kentucky, July 6
I did my chain off in Lexington, KY on Sunday 6, 2008 from 10am until 6pm. It was a beautiful day and I found a nice large tree to set up shop underneath. I had a few DDB yard signs I put up on either side of me along with my younger sister for company. A week before my demonstration I sent out a press release to all of the local media. I thought surely at least one news station would have shown up, but not one did. I also thought I would draw more attention.
It’s not every day you see a young woman chained to a doghouse in a public park. Hardly anyone made eye contact with me. I guess they thought that if they didn’t look, they wouldn’t have to get involved or even acknowledge that chaining is a national problem. I think it spoke to the greater mentally of our society today.
So many people walk through life with blinders on, not acknowledging those in need. If they don’t acknowledge, they don’t have to assume responsibility. I am so glad to be a part of the Dog Deserve Better organization because they are a group who doesn’t have their blinders on andthey assume responsibility for those who have no voice.
It was a long day and a bit disappointing, but sign me up for next year. Maybe I reached a few people and that’s more than would have been reached had I not participated!
Thanks DDB for all you do!!!!
