Chained in Scottsdale, AZ, July 5th from 5AM to 9PM

I chained at Steele Indian School Park in downtown Phoenix this time instead of at my home.  Also chained with me were: Kimberly Cole, Danielle Waechter, Jasmine Rivera and Laura Whitman.  I had hoped for more people in the park, but it was my bad...I should have gone for July 4th again.  Instead, it was the 5th and the park was pretty empty.  At least it wasn't as hot as last year's 122 degrees!!  Some folks did stop to ask us what we were doing and our friends and family stopped by for support and "doggie" treats!!

We had posters hanging up with poems from a dog's perspective, pictures of chained dogs, Dogs Deserve Better information, bins of euthanized pets to demonstrate how we need to spay and neuter as well as a bunch of other information.  Two television stations interviewed us, but I think only the one aired the story.  I was told it aired more than once, though.  You can see that interview here:  http://www.kpho.com/video/16802245/index.html   I was interviewed by a local radio station as well and that aired in three segments on July 3rd.

We enjoyed sitting, talking, educating and socializing, but I couldn't help but feel guilty because my day was pleasantly spent with nice people while chained dogs are so lonely and bored.  I'm hoping we brought awareness to at least a few people and we raised over $1000 for DDB, so I'm happy with THAT!!

I think this is a wonderful organization and talk about it to everyone I meet.  I WILL be doing this again next year for sure!  Hopefully, I'll be in Congress then and I'll be sure to garner plenty of attention for DDB then!!  I'll be looking to be chained out with Tammy if that happens!!  Thank you all for the sacrifices you make everyday to try to help make life better for a sad, lonely dog.  YOU'RE THE BEST!!!

Rebecca

We decided to chain in a more centrally located park in Phoenix, Arizona on July 5th for 15 hours. (It was only 107 that day so not bad).  we thought it might be a good day for the media and thought maybe families would still be out partying and bbqing but no such luck... the park was pretty dead but Channel 5 interviewed and aired on Saturday night and channel 12 interviewed but don't think they aired it.  One of the news talk radio stations interviewed one of the gals that chained with us who is also running for congress here in AZ and they broad casted that Thursday the 3rd.  We made great florescent posters with educational information and spay and neuter info, pictures of chained dogs, pictures of bins full of euthanized animals to represent the extraordinary amount of animals euthanized everyday. Also, posters with dog poems from a dog's perspective.

Flyer's, pamphlets, door hangers, donation jug, etc..... Not very many in the park that day but a few inquired about what we were doing. Friends and family came to visit and brought us food and drinks and of course their love and support. I am so proud to be part of dogs deserve better and hoping that if we reached even one person or saved one dog from this horrible heat here, that its is enough to keep me going. I will continue the slow fight to change laws here and do my best to watch out for backyard dogs. Thanks to dogs deserve better and thanks to everyone else who participated. Together we are all making a difference one day at a time.  I attached the news clip that aired.  Hopefully you all can open it... And an article that one of the chained girls did a week prior on foreclosures.
