Animal Welfare League, Northern Neck, VA, July 4th
Chained Float
I am a volunteer for Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck, in Va. A town near us, Irvington always has a 4th of July parade and they always invite us to participate. Our theme this year of course was to Chain-off on our "float"
We used a flat bed trailor pulled by a truck. We put a large dog house on it, three of us wore collars and very large rusty chain. We put big dog bowls all over it, that were turned over or on its side, showing that they were empty. We did not even afford ourselves the luxury of sun glasses. We did not "cheer"....we didn't smile or wave or have eye contact with the spectators.
We sat there "bored, lethargic and tried to look really bummed out". We had all of our other volunteers smiling and waving & passing out candy and spay/neuter information. We had the truck decorated for the 4th, but it stopped at the trailor and the only thing we decorated the trailor with was alot of chain drapped all over......and posters that read things like: Train em - don't chain em, dogs need change, not chains, etc., alot of DDB sayings. We had T-shirts made (by my son) who did some good chain-off art and that said "Chain-off 2008" and the back's said "Unchain our world".
We did a press-release using your sample as a guide, but the one right before the 4th somehow didn't make it into the paper.
We were not chained for very long, so we tried to make it as dramatic as could be. We got lots of great feed back at the time and after the parade.
I am sorry I cannot send any photo's - I haven't seen one good one yet !!!!
Thanks for all you do and the great ideas you give to us.
